Today marks the beginning of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week!
In honor of the mental health observances in May, we pay recognition to all children in New York State and those that care for them. As the saying goes, ‘it takes a village’ to support a child and as members of the children’s mental health provider community, you have a unique and vital perspective to understand the significant role mental health plays in overall health and wellness and how vital positive mental health is to a child's development and everyone's well-being.
Perhaps a positive outcome of the previous year and the resulting challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, is the increased awareness and conversation about mental health. This provides an opportunity to promote wellness while reducing stigma. It is our hope that as knowledge and awareness of mental health expands so will the recognition of critical supports and resources to those in need.
We value and appreciate the role each of you play in the lives of children and families. As we collectively celebrate Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, we hope you take time to reflect on the significance of children’s mental health and the impact you make each and every day. Above all, remember to care for yourself as you care for others.
Please see the below resources and events related to Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week:
This annual celebration highlights the positive work across New York State to support the mental health of children, youth and young adults.

Single Point Of Access
Seneca County has many services, supports, and activities to offer youth and their families. Learning about all the options and deciding which would be the most beneficial for a specific youth and family can be time consuming and confusing.
Bob Ritter, Coordinator of Children’s Services, offers “One stop shopping”. Bob will meet the family and explain the options that are available. He will assist the family in determining which supports or services the family feels would be the most beneficial. Bob will make the referrals for the supports or services the family requests.
Families may contact Bob directly. School staff, therapists, case workers, etc. can refer the family to Bob, with the family’s consent, by utilizing the SPOA referral form.
